Friendly Footprints: Climate Dinner

On Friday the 6th of December Soapbox South Africa is organising their 6th Climate Dinner in Cape Town themed: Friendly Footprints
Join us on a culinary journey towards sustainable travel & living at the historic Neighbourgood Church with Italian Masterchef Lapo Magni. The dinner will take guests on a culinary journey celebrating eco-friendly travel, with a thoughtfully crafted four-course menu that highlights sustainability, local ingredients and businesses. Tickets can be booked on Quicket.

It all starts with a first step

In 2023, global CO2 emissions hit a record high of 37.55 billion metric tons, with tourism contributing roughly 5%. While some travelers seek eco-friendly options, it is valuable to analyse how you can travel in a more sustainable way, contributing to local communities, natural landscapes, and the climate. Friendly Footprints is here to change how we experience travel, one step at a time. We’ve partnered with chef Lapo Magni, former winner of MasterChef Italia, who is known for his passion for sustainable cooking, to offer a 4-course immersive dining experience that represents eco-conscious travel and celebrates wonderful local produce.

“Traveling has always been a passion of mine, but I’m increasingly mindful of the environmental impact of it,” said Ruben Hazelzet, Founder and Creative Director of Soapbox South Africa. “That’s why I’m thrilled that at this Climate Dinner, we’ll be focusing on ways to travel more sustainably. It’s an honor to bring the Climate Dinner to Cape Town following two successful events in Amsterdam, and I look forward to exploring actionable solutions with our community here.”

Hosted at the historic Neighbourgood Church, Friendly Footprints will guide guests on an engaging journey toward climate-friendly travel and living. While they enjoy sustainable dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, inspiring speakers will share practical tips and insights on how mindful choices can make a difference. A short documentary will further explore the effects of tourism on our planet and introduce ways to travel in harmony with nature, focussing on supporting local businesses, managing waste and eating consciously.

Eco-friendly travel choices are not only about reducing emissions but also about engaging with communities in meaningful ways. By highlighting how conscious choices impact local economies and environments, Friendly Footprints aims to empower everyone, from seasoned travelers to mindful foodies, to make a positive impact. Each guest will leave with practical tips on how to plan their next trip with sustainability in mind, because every journey, can leave a friendly footprint.

About The Climate Diet

In 2017, during the midst of the water crisis, Soapbox South Africa, brought Lapo Magni (winner of Italian MasterChef) to the middle of the dried up Theewaterskloof Dam. The goal was to raise awareness about climate change and revamp South Africa’s iconic lamb bunny chow in a climate and water friendly version.

The Climate Diet wants to inspire South Africans with practical tips on how they can change their diet to contribute to a healthier environment. To promote this climate dinners are organised on different themes like deforestation, food waste and soil erosion.
