In a world teetering on the edge of unprecedented change, we are called to reconnect with the most fundamental force that sustains us—our breath. Umoya BreathFest 2024, hosted by Breathwork Africa, offers a sacred space to explore this connection in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, where our collective story began. Over four transformative days, participants will gather to reflect, heal, and rediscover the ancient wisdom of breath as a tool for personal and collective transformation.
A Space for Courageous Conversations
The theme for Umoya BreathFest 2024 invites us to confront what is both dying and being reborn within ourselves and our world. It asks a vital question: how does breath hold space for the brave conversations we need to have, both within and between each other?
Anchored in breathwork and inspired by the rhythm of life itself, Umoya is not just an event—it’s a call to action for those seeking healing and renewal. This gathering will bring together a diverse community of breathwork practitioners, healers, death doulas, and creative thinkers, all committed to reimagining a future that honors our connection to the earth and to each other.
Breathing Life Into Our Collective Healing
Breathwork, an ancient practice that has been passed down through generations, holds a power that is always with us. It is more than just a technique—it is a bridge to deeper self-awareness, a tool to heal trauma, and a method to align body, mind, and spirit. At Umoya BreathFest, participants will immerse themselves in a variety of breathing practices and group processes designed to ground, heal, and foster connection.
Our speakers include influential leaders in their fields, each embodying the transformative potential of breath:
- Rachel Nyaradzo Adams: A leadership and transformation expert, Rachel creates safe spaces for tough yet necessary conversations about personal and societal growth.
- Nina Callaghan: A PhD candidate and Director of the Centre for Sustainability Transitions, Nina explores sustainable governance and ways to navigate our world’s current polycrisis.
- Dion Chang: Known as a strategic thinker and “cage rattler,” Dion also serves as an end-of-life companion, guiding people through personal and metaphorical transitions.
- Dr. Ela Manga: Founder of Breathwork Africa and author of BREATHE: Strategising Energy in the Age of Burnout, Dr. Manga’s work integrates breath with holistic health and energy optimisation.
Gathering at the Cradle of Humankind
Set against the backdrop of the Cradle Valley Conference Venue, the festival’s location is symbolic—a return to the birthplace of humanity. The Cradle of Humankind, with its rich history and breathtaking landscape, is a fitting setting for a gathering dedicated to exploring our shared human experience and the future we wish to create.
Participants can choose from a variety of packages:
- Full Retreat Package (R17,250 sharing or R20,125 single) Includes 3 nights’ accommodation, meals, workshops, and a welcome pack.
- Day Visitor Package (R2,100 per day) Includes lunch, workshops, and a welcome pack.
